The Rome Chocolate Cake
This recipe has been handed down by the Romes. My husband's father was one of 12 and his grandmother used to cook this cake on a wood stove. The recipe was given to me by Aunt Reva Rome.
My daughter Erica, makes it the best!
The Rome Cake (recipe from Aunt Reva)
Ingredients:

2 cups sugar

1 stick butter
-
2 eggs
-
4 squares bitter melted chocolate

1 teaspoon vanilla
-
2 cups flour
-
8 oz Sour Cream
-
1 teaspoon baking soda
-
1 teaspoon vinegar
-
1 cup boiling water
-
Preheat oven 350 degrees.

Grease tube pan (no flour) and line just bottom with wax paper.

Cream butter and sugar together.

Add eggs and beat after each one.

Add vanilla.

Add melted chocolate.

Add flour and sour cream. (Alternate first flour and last flour.)

Mix baking soda and vinegar together. Add to batter.

Add 1 cup of boiling water...This mixture will be liquid.

Pour into tube pan.

Bake 1 hour.

When done, toothpick should be slightly moist.
