A Pikesville Icon...Fields!

At one time most neighborhoods had a pharmacy and a lunch counter. Fields still has the cafe and we  recently enjoyed lunch sitting on a swivel stool at the counter.

The poster on the wall shows the building dating back to 1892.  One hundred twenty years is a long time to be in business. There must be a reason to sustain itself.

Maybe it the milkshakes made from real ice cream in the big stainless steel "glass", maybe it's the consistently good food or maybe it's the friendly service that we have come to expect.

Today Fields is best known for it's extensive makeup counter(the pharmacy is no more) and the homey cafe.

So easy to stop and grab bite, and most times  see someone you know sitting at the counter. If you lived in Colonial  Village at 7014 Deerfield Rd. Pikesville you could walk  to Fields and have an old fashioned cream soda with or without  lunch.

My lunch special consisted of a half sandwich, cup of soup and a salad. There was plenty to eat, presented well, delicious and served by friendly wait staff. When I go back, I will probably order the same exact thing.

Should we wait until spring to put the house on the market?

He has also hidden a speaker and plays -- very softly -- bird-call tapes (Canada geese for example) to add to the lively conversations among the many songbirds that live there.

Not surprisingly, his property is a certified wildlife habitat. Bullfrogs "gullump" in his pond. Hummingbirds zip through the red bee balm (Monarda didyma cardinalis). His butterfly bush (Buddleia) arbor draws hundreds of butterflies that land on him when he walks through. There are squirrels and rabbits and chipmunks.  "I once looked out and there was a red fox lying down by the koi pond," he says.

But the quarter-acre garden isn't just for critters. He places focal points -- statuary, ornaments, urns, gates -- to lead visitors through every portion of this mini-wonderland. The garden is a flowing series of "rooms," each with its own spot from which to admire the view.''

 Fieldstone is a community  of about 80 homes situated in the heart of Randallstown, Maryland 21133. This historic area lies in the Liberty Road Corridor with streets Including Church Lane, McDonogh Road, Blair Road, and Greens Lane.

The Fieldstone Community dates back to 1891. In 2001 the older section of Fieldstone was designated a Baltimore County Historic District. Today the Fieldstone Community (both Historic and newer section of Fieldstone) is comprised of stately old stone homes, brick capes, colonials and ranchers, as well as some modern construction.

 Good News! Super Walmart Opening in Randallstown!

 Received a comment on my beautiful stone   5 Bedroom Rancher in the Fieldstone Area of Randallstown, Maryland 21133  saying:  "...we belong to the Fieldstone Community and we can give you some info about what's planned for the area in 2012.... Then this same commenter,  who is the proud owner of one of my listings, sent an email with the attached flyer below!

This super Walmart is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2012. Not only will the development create about 100 construction jobs and 350 or more permanent jobs but it is also expected to attract more retail businesses.
