Brutus is my name, playing is my game. I'm a big boy who loves people. I enjoy going on hikes and playing tug-o-war. I've been here at BHS for over a year now.

I LOVE the people here. They’re like my family, but I need to find a family to call my own. It's stressful to be in a shelter for over a year and I need a vacation! Maybe you would you be able to give me a foster vacation? I've had a couple of "girlfriends" here at the shelter that I like to have play dates with, so if you have another dog we could meet and see how it goes. The staff calls me a ladies man. I'm not too sure what that means...but I'll take any compliment I can get! One thing — I'm not too good with cats.

I'm a staff favorite here and they really want to see me happy and in my forever home. Please come visit with me. I love meeting new people!

My name is Lucy and I am a senior cat, 8 yrs old. I was originally adopted from BHS in 2004, but was brought back recently because my previous owner said I was having litter box issues. Sometimes cats have these issues if the box isn't cleaned or scooped on a daily basis or if the type of litter used is not litter the cat likes to use.

Stress or changes in the household can also contribute. So can a UTI. There are preventative things that can actually be done to help the situation. The best thing to do is take your cat to the vet if it has litter-box issues, and in my case that was not done. My owner decided to bring me back instead.

I am very skittish and timid, but I’ll let you pet me once I feel comfortable with you. Please consider me if you are looking for an adult cat (senior) who just needs a loving and understanding home. I am hoping to see you soon.

the B’more Humane Lonely Hearts Club.

                           

I was adopted from BHS at about 4 years old, but I was

sadly returned and been here since December 2010.

I have come a long way from that scared kitty

when I first came in. I have adjusted to life here, but I

would really like to find my forever home. I am an

older cat now, but don't let that scare you away. I

am very active and will make you laugh. Please

This Week's To Do List B'More Humane Mother's Day Gifts                                                   Make a donation in honor of your Mom.  If your mother or special female in your life loves animals, then she'll love receiving this donation in her honor.  You'll warm your mom's heart while helping to care for a homeless animal. What a wonderful way to express the meaning of a mother's caring love! Phat  Cat Webinar Monday, May 7th, 3pm Join us for our very first interactive webinar! This Monday we will be holding the first of a series of three webinars as part of our Phat Cat Fitness Camp.  Hosted by Dr. Zink, our Medical Director, the topic will be Body Condition Scoring and Weighing.  It will take place on our Facebook page - facebook.com/bmorehumane, and you will be able to participate with questions and comments. Please remember to join us at 3 pm!  The next two webinars on our Facebook page will be: How to Motivate Your Cat to Exercise - Monday, May 14    3pm-4pm Food and Your Cat's Weight Loss - Monday, May 21   3pm-4pm Paws on Parade, Saturday, May 12 10am - 2pm                                                      There's still time to register to walk at Paws on Parade. Bring your pet, your friends, or your family and enjoy a stroll on our 365 acre wildlife preserve.  It's only $10 to register. Be an Advocate and help raise funds that go directly to the care of our animals. It's free to register and you'll get your very own fundraising webpage.  It's easy!  Just send your fundraising link to your friends, co-workers, and family and ask them to help you reach your goal.  That's all there is to it! Enjoy the day's activities.  You don't have to be a walker or advocate to come and enjoy the day's fun.  There will be all sorts of games for you and your pet, educational workshops like bite prevention, an Ask the Vet booth, and all sorts of vendors including Tiki's Playhouse Ice-cream Truck for Dogs.  So be sure to be there!  Entry is free.  Vote For Ray Rice Training Day Camp with The Dogs Bring Ray Rice To Baltimore Humane Society                                          Vote to bring  Ray Rice out to Baltimore Humane Society for a day of training with our dogs.  Watch Ray in different events with our dogs.  He'll run drills, a 40 yard dash, and obstacle course.  We'll also hold a contest prior to the June event for a chance to race against Ray and the dogs in an obstacle course - who's faster? Hello. My name is Angel and I am a 2.5 yr old brindle mix who was originally at another shelter, but BHS took me and my 2 puppies in so we could find a home. My puppies are actually in foster homes now and I am ready to be placed up for adoption. I am very sweet and have been good with all the people I come in contact with. I like going for walks and sitting on the sofa in our dog room while staff members pet me, give me treats, and make me feel safe. I also like to play with toys and eat. Yep, I love food. Unfortunately, not too much is known about me, so if you have other dogs we would do a dog intro to make sure we all get along. If you have cats I would have to be cat tested so please let one of the staff members know so I can be tested ASAP. If you have children, please bring them so they can meet me.  We could go into the play yard and enjoy our time together. Please come and visit me at BHS to give me a chance at a forever home.

                                             
Hello there. My name is Enzo. I was originally brought to BHS in 2007 as a kitten and then adopted in 2010. However, I am back here again because I didn't get along with the other cats in my house. I also was stressed and would nibble a bit on the sofas in my previous owner’s home, which he didn't like very much. I just need a home where it’s calm, quiet, and relaxing. I would probably even prefer no other animals as I get a little anxious. I am the prettiest, and sweetest boy though, and wish every day to find that forever home and family who will love me unconditionally!

Have Room in Your Heart for a Special Needs Girl Like Lacey?

      Special Needs for Lacey? Can You Help?

 Last month we shared Can You Adopt Hope?

And this month there is another special girl who needs a home.

This spirited girl doesn't let her deafness stop her

 

Meet Lacey. Lacey is a white, female Pit/Dalmatian mix who is deaf.   She's a sweet girl who lived with children and cats in her previous home. Her owners also socialized her with other dogs.

So why did they give her up? Just like a special needs child, she requires extra attention. Her owners taught her some sign language for basic commands like sit, stay, and come, and Lacey, a smart girl had no trouble learning. However, the combination of needing some extra training attention and her very high energy level led her owners to give her to Baltimore Humane Society so that she could find a family better equipped to caring for her. As much as they loved her, they felt they couldn't give her the time she deserved.

Deaf pets are just as intelligent as hearing pets. Deaf animals bark and meow making all the regular sounds hearing pets do. They can be taught sign language commands and are fully trainable. The one big rule is that a deaf pet should never be allowed to roam freely outdoors unless it is in a securely fenced enclosure.
 
B'more Humane has housed many other special needs pets.  Peepers, a blind dog and beloved staff favorite, was adopted last year. Nixon, a long time resident and Lonely Hearts Club member, is a senior whose special needs involve skin allergies.  But if you're willing to follow a simple, special diet for him you'll receive lots of love from this terrific guy and another staff favorite!  

We would love to find families for our special needs pets that are willing to go the extra mile to care for them. Of course, experience with special needs animals would make you an even better fit.
