The Best Paycheck Is A Letter of Appreciation.

This Letter of Appreciaton  arrived today:          

''Dear Margaret,

I feel bad that I haven’t contacted you since the closing of my house a couple of weeks ago. Having read some of your blogs, at least I feel typical – in that, as you stated, there’s a period of mourning with the sale of a longtime family home.  I suppose I haven’t totally moved on, as I am still getting adjusted to the new normal.

One thing that hasn’t changed (nor do I expect it ever will) is my feeling for the way you handled the process with me. You were/are… wonderful! There were so many things I appreciated, but I will attest to anyone in your field of Real Estate – or any other industry, for that matter – that you are the example that others should follow. I could rattle off the little things (initiating and returning phone calls, e-mails, texts; meetings as required; being intensely involved when necessary; backing off a little (like at the beginning – when I needed to sort some things out); immediately having most of the answers to my questions; finding out the answers when you didn’t have them; making all the closing arrangements without any hitches (at least none visible to me).

 It’s somewhat impressive that you embrace new technologies – iphone/ipad blogging and texting, for example. What’s really impressive, though, is that you seamlessly use these technologies for the benefit of your clients, peers, or network associates – which ultimately benefits all! 

I think the thing I’m most impressed with, though, is your integrity, and work ethic. I know you’ve come to learn that, since I’m divorced, the two most important people in my life are my mom and daughter. Unfortunately, my mom is slipping away… I wanted my daughter with me when we met, and at as many meetings as possible, to give her a taste of how the realty process works. I’m glad I got you, and I’m glad my daughter got a chance to see you in action.

In the mail...the real mail...like in the box outside the house..with a stamp on the envelope... I received this lovely thank you note from Yvonne Schnee, a new ActiveRain member.

In today's 'snail' mail I received a custom card made by Terri Camp. She took a copy of a magazine, that featured me, and made it the cover. Please take time to read her 'thank you' note and notice we both drive the same make car with branded license plates. Her's reads "Ta Dah"

              
              

 

                              

  

It has only been 10 days since I met this new blogger and mentioned her in my post Our Job is to Get Signatures! 

Her  featured post I Worked So  Much, I Went Broke received 247 comments and was reblogged numerous times. 

Impressed with her writing, I gave Terri a call, had a delightful conversation and sent her a copy of my book Real Estate the Rome Way.

Remember that a small gesture goes a long way. How many notes of appreciation have you received lately?  It's easy to take a few minutes to show gratitude for someone who has made your day a bit better?

This is what came in the mail today..a beautiful handwritten note...

"You were so patient with us throughout the entire process. Your constant encouragement and positive outlook really helped us maintain faith that we would eventually find the house that was right for us......You really are our "fairy godmother" and really have made our " fairy tale" come true!...''

Active Rain, the Rome Way!

When I speak with young agents, I tell them," Do every single thing with the hope of getting a thank-you note. "  When they start coming in, the success will follow. Focus on what's best for others and what you can do to bring about these expressions of appreciation.''

My husband says I work for these notes and I always agree with him.

Today, I received the best "pay check" ever! First an email thanking me and then this beautiful post. Can you just imagine Alan tearing up?
I love that my little note made Alan feel so special!

 I received a large 9 x 12 envelope in today's mail.  And it had a return address from our illustrious Margaret Rome.
Hmmm.... I thought to myself... what is Margaret Rome sending to little ole me?
I opened it up, and the first think I saw was a post-it note that said "Alan-Very Proud of you!!" and it was signed Margaret.
I think I teared-up a little bit, when I saw that... Margaret was proud of me... that's so cool... wonder what I did that made her proud.
I soon noticed that underneath the post it note was a copy of the Commentary that I had written called "Let's Ask the Inspector" (based on a post of mine from Active Rain) that Realtor magazine had published in their April/May 2011 issue.
Margaret had taken the time to give it a nice aqua blue frame, and have it laminated.... BOTH SIDES!!
I am both humbled and honoured, not only to be noticed by Margaret... but that she took the time to laminate and mail (via snail mail... TWO STAMPS!!) a copy to me.  That's just the quality of the membership here in the Rain, and the culture that we are privileged to be a part of.  (crap, I just ended that sentence with a preposition... my father-in-law, Max would be upset).
Now it's one thing to receive a nice note from a colleague, and yet another to receive a note from a colleague telling you that they are proud of you for something you did that was business related.
But to receive such a note from the venerable Margaret Rome.  For those of you who know Margaret (Realtor magazine's Open House master, and author of Real Estate the Rome Way), you shouldn't be surprised.  She's just that type of person!
I can't even begin to tell you how touched I am.
Margaret, you are one of a kind, and I am touched.  (of course you probably already knew that I was a little "teched", but this is a little different)...

The Power of A Thank You Note!

About ten days ago I wrote a cute post that received a whole lot of comments.  How many is a lot? Over 100!  Noticing that Mary Stewart  made the 100th comment, I dialed her number.

"Congratulations. You just won a copy of  Real Estate the Rome Way ,,, Where should I send it?''  We had a lovely chat and I got to know another AR member a bit better.

Just look at the hand written that arrived in the mail...the real mail that the Letter Carrier brings and puts in a mail box at your house. How novel!

Once again I dial Mary...my turn to say thank you for taking time to write. We had a delightful conversation and I asked and received permission to post  the following.

When I really  looked at the card, turned it over and saw  " Original Watercolors By Mary Stewart" I was impressed. Here is another ActiveRain artist using her talent with hand written notes.

I just got a nice paycheck. I mean, thank you note. More than a year ago I started working with these wonderful sellers, and we went through some challenging times together. But letters like this are what keep me going. And isn't that what real estate is all about?
