ACC Baltimore 2013

One of my favorite things is the ACC Craft show right here in Baltimore.

I don't think I have ever missed one of these shows and today was no exception. My friend, Anne Hruby, and I walked for almost four hours and still did not see the entire show. It was a wonderful day and there is still time for you to visit Saturday and Sunday.

Below are some of my previous visits to this fine craft show.  Hope you can take a few hours to enjoy this beautiful selection made by talented artists. The items can be found in many forms including jewelry, metal, wood, fabric, weaving, glass, ceramic, wearable art, furniture and leather.

ACC Craft Show Baltimore 2012..More Than Eye Candy.

The Craft Show is in Baltimore this weekend and it is bigger and better. With over 700 exhibitors, it may be the largest indoor craft show ever. Everywhere you look there is beauty, eye candy, creativity and an excitement listening to the artists.  There was lots of positive energy and people were buying.

I have been going to these shows for many years and way before real estate. Was able to see quite of few artists from previous years and prior posts.

Susan Provda was proud to be featured in The Baltimore Sun. Her specialty is hand made brushes. Take a look at Susan's earring!

Eugene Watson  was delighted to see his hand sculptured jewelry boxes featured on my post about last years show. Another good use of my iPad.

Chandelier made of wine bottles. Good way to repurpose your glass bottles.

Silk Necklace

I found Susan Sanders and her "Silkworms." These very unusual necklaces are crafted of multiple silk strands and have a hand-made magnetic closure. Put it on and click, you're ready to go.   I own this one-of-a-kind in tones of browns, of course, with gold/bronze threads.

If It Rolls Like a Duck...ACC in Baltimore.

Following up on more of the handmade art objects  from American Craft Council Show in Baltimore, take a look at  some of the pieces from the wood artisans.

I love this wooden duck. Notice how the  position of the egg changes as the duck rolls along. Fell in love with this piece and bought if for Doug's new baby boy. Can't wait to give him the gift.

This sculptured jewelry box in closed form and then a similar one opened. The artist has also incorporated a hidden compartment for that special treasure. I happen to think each of these pieces are special treasures.

Another trapezoid box by the same artist ,Eugene Watson, shown closed and then open. The inside is lined with ultra-suede. They are for special collectors... fun to touch, play with and also are useful for holding your very special items.

This game table with matching bench can also be raised to  table height. Artistic and functional all at the same time. This would be a welcome addition to any home.

One Person's Stuff...Another Person's Art ..Baltimore ACC Show

All that glitters at the ACC show may not be gold. One Person's Stuff is Another Person's Art....and, I am glad to see this imagination used with such creativity.

I met Baron Rene von Richthofen at the Baltimore's American Craft Council Show this week. This very charming man creates art out of a variety of materials but mostly car parts and miniature cars. He uses the term "controlled chaos" descibing how he attaches these materials that fuel his imagination.

''The automobile is the most important invention of the last century. It has given us freedom of mobility and has systematically led to every advantage we currently take for granted. Along with its practical purposes, I celebrate the finer points of the automobile that have brought the world together and have inspired our inner child....My art is abut how this invention changed us. Like all change,it's neither all good nor all bad."  www.richthofenart.com.

As many know, I am former ceramic artist and the ACC show is one not to be missed. Each year walking through the isles of over 700 of the country's top contemporary craft  artists, there are few that catch my eye. This year it was the art of the toy car..maybe because of spending time and getting to know C Tann Starr and her boys. This artist may be the only person who has more cars than Stephen, the Minion Blur.

The Baron uses the term "controlled chaos" to descibe how he attaches these materials that fuel his imagination. Stephen's mom has a group "Club Chaos".

The Craft show opens my eyes and mind to so much stimulation. Each artist could be another entire subject for a post. Do we always have to write about real estate? Of course not! But our lives are so much better from all the people we meet and all the things we see and experience.

All that glitters at the ACC show may not be gold. One Person's Stuff is Another Person's Art.  And, I am glad to see this imagination used with such creativity.

Serengeti at the Baltimore ACC Show This Weekend

Here is a bit of the Serengeti..as seen this weekend in Baltimore  at the  American Craft Council Show February 24-27th.

I found the crocodile and the giraffe done by the same artists Scott and Jodi Causey who are from Sarasota, Fl.  They were a wonderful in moving the large ceramic crocodile on the left so  I could get a better picture. My suggestion was to get a couple of Stefan's books to display with the animals. Guess I am always marketing.

The photo of the middle crocodile was a small jewelry pin by Sean Brown, an artist from Denver, Colorado

Tonight I see Karen's post The Graceful Giraffe meets the Type E Personality   and made this comment: '' Karen, I love this post! Well of course, I would...it's about me! Could you move to Baltimore? I really need a good translator. ..so rare and so hard to find! Just found out from your last post that you and I are both Registered Nurses..my first career.  Glad you liked the photo of the giraffe taken yesterday at the ACC craft show in Baltimore.''

American Craft Council Show Will Be in Baltimore This Weekend! February 24-27th

You will find me at the ACC this weekend just like every year in the past. The show will be February 24-27, 2011.

There will be more than 700 artists including jewelry, clothing, furniture and home accessories.  The ACC is the largest juried indoor craft show in the nation.

                                             ACC 2011

Here are some of my observations from the past FOUR years. The crafts are as varied as the artists represented. There will be lots more photos this weekend when I visit the  Convention Center right here in Baltimore. Let me know if there is a special artist or type of craft that you would like me to seek out. Let me know before Friday morning.

As a former ceramic artist, I never  miss this special show, though I have gone for different reasons over the years. When I was a working artist it was for ideas, for booth displays, learning about the artists and of course networking --seeing my art clients there and staying in front of the public. Now that I am in real estate, I find that when I am doing something that I really enjoy, there are others with the same interests. Arts and Crafts...A Bit of Humor .....HomeRome Tour

This past week, while visiting one of my sellers, I was able to tour their art collection. Being a former ceramic and porcelain artist and attending many craft shows, it is always a pleasure to see what others choose for their home. Got permission to photograph a few pieces and want to share them with you. Love the whimsy and humor in some of these pieces.

Eye Candy for Artists – Baltimore ACC Craft Show

Eye Candy for Artists – Baltimore ACC Craft Show

So much has happened over the past few weeks that I haven't had a chance to write about the delightful few hours spent at the American Craft Council's Baltimore Craft Show. It's an annual treat for me and my friend/publisher Peg Silloway. We both have spent part of our lives working in crafts, and this one day is a chance to recharge our creative batteries and see what's happening in the world of fine handcrafts.

Josh Simpson and Channel 13 Videographer HomeRome.com Channel 13 filming Josh Simpson's Glass HomeRome.com

There are some old favorites we always check in with, like glass artist Josh Simpson. His work is exquisite and Peg is a collector. This time while we were visiting his booth the cameraman from Channel 13 was there, and we had fun taking photos of the photographer as he worked and chatted with the artist.

Then are there are the new discoveries. This year we especially liked the familiar objects like old telephones, sneakers, and even a tricycle, that had been covered with colorful beads and turned into brilliant sculptures by Tom and Kathy Wegman. Never saw that before! And then there was Jeffrey Ohwho made the most ingenious and beautiful coffee table I've ever seen. The wooden end blocks each could move to change position and so change the shape of the table. Each of those end blocks was actually a storage cube, and the top was a seat with a pre-carved body shape " tush impression." And it was comfortable!

I was looking for a clock for the kitchen and spent time in this booth that had the shapes I love – squares – in wood, copper, and steel. Beautiful work by Leonie Lacouette.

Peg is a cat lover, of course, and liked the carved cat granite tile by Amy and Jeff Dallas, but took home a small porcelain jar with a miniature mother cat and kitten carving on the top. These were beautifully crafted by Barbara Sebastian and a good addition to her collection of small boxes and other containers. Peg had an extra copy of The Cat Lover's Book of Days with her and was able to barter with the artist toward the price of the jar. Good idea! Peg also bought a neat card holder from Carole Bowns' Buggy Whip Studio; it has a cat on it, of course.

Hanging around with Peg and Russel Ray on AR sure made me gravitate to all the feline art. Did you check out that potty seat above?

Pottery demo HomeRome.com Colorful furniture HomeRome.com Colorful glass HomeRome.com

We stopped to watch a pottery demonstration (I was a ceramic artist in a former life) for a few minutes and then found some lunch before checking out more of the show. Even though we didn't get through all of it – it's immense! – it was a great day. And you can bet we'll be back again next February when the Baltimore Civic Center becomes a showplace for the best in American crafts again.
