A Pasadena Open House Barbecue...Martha Brown Style

A Pasadena Open House Barbecue...Martha Brown Style

What a lovely evening we had. A half hour drive from Baltimore...well maybe a bit more in traffic, and I was at Martha Brown's unique listing in Pasadena.

Wonderful way to combine an entertaining evening with friends, neighbors and ActiveRain members, to showcase  a special home and create awareness for a special  charity.

Martha knows how to market a home. Who ever heard of a Thursday evening open house Barbecue?

This property is perfect for entertaining with its secluded acre multiple garages, carports and private "beach" area. It would make a great extended family compound, a corporate retreat, Bed & Breakfast or just your own year round  'staycation'  home with a rustic, charming resort feel!

Who do you know who may want this log cabin home?

We Had An Open House Party and Look Who Came.

                                                                                               Gourmet kitchen holds a crowd

We Had An Open House Party and Look Who Came.

It was a  colorful fall day, in Baltimore, with a bit of liquid sunshine. That did not stop the brightness inside this gorgeous Weston home at 9913 Middle Mill Drive Owings Mills, MD. 21117.

Each person who walked in was  impressed... with the size, the lay out, the creative use of space, the two car garage, the luxury master bedroom suite, the one floor convenience, the man cave area and the perfect  kitchen where everyone wanted to congregate. Lucky that this gourmet space holds a  crowd.

We had a wonderful turnout!  Not bad for rainy 'humpday' at lunch time.

So Who came?  Margaret Rome Holds Another Successful AR Open House!

ActiveRainers came, neighbors came, other agents came, real estate professionals came and most important friends came. This is the way to showcase a special home. Open the house on the MLS, on our sites,  on our emails,  but  also open it with a personal  phone call  and invitation. Yes it does work.

You can call it an open house, you can call it a broker's open, you can call it a gathering or you can call it an ActiveRain Party! One of these special people might have the right buyer for this perfect home.

October in Baltimore! The Color of Orange in a Small Pumpkin Patch

October in Baltimore was evidenced by the warm greeting of these guys at  the Saturday Open House .

The owners of  8930 Church Lane in Randallstown, MD. 21133, have been following my blog since they bought my listing 3506 Gardenview Rd. 21208

I received a personal invitation to visit their first open house on Saturday.

This property shows pride of ownership both inside and out and especially the lush grounds.

These cute little guys with their smiles and bright outfits were making me feel very welcome!

Impromptu Open House... Today Saturday July 23 at 1:00 PM ... 8820 Greens Lane, Randallstown, MD 21133

Since there is a scheduled showing on my new listing... I have decided  to have an impromptu open house today at 1:00 PM  at  8820 Greens Lane 5 Bedroom Rancher in Fieldstone Area of Randallstown, Maryland 21133

This one has beautiful curb appeal and shows pride of ownership. This is such a special stone home and was built to last. Four bedrooms on the first level with a sunken living room, formal dining room and a wonderful country kitchen that overlooks the level back yard.

Gigantic lower level with another master bedroom, full bath and rooms for all your entertaining needs. Level walk out to back yard and an abundant amount of parking.  Here is another look  at Greens Lane.

When someone calls and asks when will there be an Open House. My reply : When would you like it open?
This sign is always in my car. So when  showing any of my listings...it is not unusual for me to place this open house balloon sign.  It can go right on the post sign, it can be staked in the ground or I can even place it in the back window of my car. Never again do I blow up balloons or drive (in danger) with a car full of balloons.

REALTOR® Tragedy at Open House!

REALTOR® Tragedy at Open House!

The following was sent by my friend and fellow CyberProfessional, Les Sulgrove www.SimplyDesMoines.com
When I asked Les' permission to share this, his response: " If it helps stop one senseless attack or worse, we will have succeeded"   Everyone in real estate should be aware of this unfortunate tragedy and learn from it. What a beautiful young woman and what a tragic waste.

                                                       Ashley Okland

I am sad to report that one our REALTOR member, Ashley Okland was killed last Friday while holding a model home open house.  This link to one of our local TV station tells the story.  http://www.kcci.com/news/27481715/detail.html

I bring this sad news to all of you so that you can take steps now to educate your local membership about REALTOR safety before the unthinkable happens in your association.  God willing it never does.  We had a warning in February here in Iowa when a REALTOR member in Ottumwa, Iowa was attacked and held during a showing.  At that time we began talking about REALTOR safety, presented materials to our membership and thought we were doing all we needed to do to be safe.  We should have done more, but "it never happens here" seemed to be the reason.

Please take this tragic event as your wake up call in your local association.  Start first by going to http://www.realtor.org/safety.  Download and purchase all materials related to agent showing and open house.  Encourage your REALTOR Association to revisit their budget and allocate dollars for safety and self defense training.  Commit yourselves to talking about REALTOR safety at every membership event and include links and info in all electronic communications.  It can be as simple as adding a banner to your association website.  Contact local law enforcement and ask them to demonstrate safety acts for your membership....  In the meantime, please keep our fallen agent, Ashley Okland and her family in your prayers.  Les Sulgrove

Open Houses Can Be For the Birds...A Busy Baltimore Weekend

I have been quite Busy With Real Estate in Baltimore This Weekend. Starting on Friday taking phone calls for appointments. When I found out that I had not one but two showings on Bixler Church, a light bulb went off..why not make it an  Impromptu Open House

When I am already at a listing, already have a scheduled appointment, it is to our advantage to make it an OPEN HOUSE.

Open Houses Can Be For the Birds. You see there was another open house going on...dozens and dozens of birds feasting off one feeder. There was even a beautiful red headed woodpecker. I was torn between getting some good photos of the birds OR doing my job showing the property. You can see by the quality of the pictures what my decision was. That "X" in the snow...probably deer tracks.

After we closed up the house we decided to stop at Baugher's for a late lunch. This is a delightful restaurant and farm market that is open all year long. As you can see from the sign, there was not too much outside. The temperatures were in the teens.

First Active Rain Open House Gathering – Day Two and Done!

First Active Rain Open House Gathering – Day Two and Done!

My second day of open houses and filming for REALTOR® Magazine's Masters Series started very early with a workout at the gym. Katie and Gabe filmed a bit of my session while John, my trainer, did not go easy on me just because I was in the spotlight. C Tann-Starr came along for the "fun" and Katie and Gabe were able to use the wonderful facilities of Life Bridge to get in much needed workouts. Katie, who is training for a 1/2 marathon, picked up a few pointers from John.

Then it was back home for a few phone calls, some emails, placing my print ads, shower, etc. After that, I head to the Spring Hill Open House for an 11:30 a.m. interview with Katie and filming by Gabe. We finished about 1:00 pm as the AR members started to arrive.

Cookie basket with Bergers Cookies on top

Martha Brown and Margaret Woda ("the other Margaret in Maryland") arrived, as did Ellie McIntyre, Kim Jones, Bridget McGee, Ann Hruby, Helen Dellheim, and my daughter Erica. I managed to snap just a few photos in between showing the house and being filmed and interviewed. Helen and Anne were also interviewed separately. My friend and favorite lender Bob Bennett joined us along with Andrew Lowery from Precise Home Management - everyone needs a butler! C Tann-Starr was there, of course, and I was so glad that Lenn Harley chose this for her first AR Gathering.

Being surrounded by a film crew, best friends, terrific agents all with cameras in hand, and my daughter...well it doesn't get any better. And did I mention the weather was a glorious 50-degree sunny day? Perfect for Gabe's filming my "For Sale" sign.

Gabe videos the HomeRome sign

My seller did a beautiful job of putting the house in show house condition! What a pleasure and a delight to show. When the open house ended, we went for pizza at Upper Crust to sit around and chat, take more photos, and enjoy more bonding for the AR members. We topped it off with a little personal shopping... Anne had brought her daughter's wonderful handcrafted jewelry for all to see.

It has been exciting and challenging. Two days of open houses, ActiveRain friends, a workout, meals and bonding…and then I found out that they will use only five to six minutes from the hours and hours of filming and interviewing!

There are blogs galore about this event – here are a few more since yesterday's post:
