We had a charming guest of honor...Jeff Dowler

We had a charming guest of honor.. Jeff Dowler

It was a wonderfully busy Thursday for me. There was a ratified contract, a home inspection and the need to get to Annapolis by 6:30 for the ActiveRain meeting with Jeff Dowler.

That is definitely rush hour traffic but good planning made the drive a pleasure. Bridget McGee and I drove down together.

The setting was beautiful for our dinner at the Severn Inn in Annapolis with the Naval Academy as  a back-drop.

                                            Laura Murray and Mortgage Mama

It was a pleasure meeting AR newbie Laura Murray who was asking wonderful questions! It was hard answering with everyone talking and sharing many stories. Amazing how everyone gets to know each other from just living in your computer.

What a beautiful day it was at 9913 Middle Mill Road in  Owings Mills, Maryland.

This spacious rancher really is a lovely home in a great neighborhood.   What a home for the right buyer!
This huge semi-attached home with a fully finished basement is in a condo community so you'll have no outside maintenance!
There was plenty of room for all the folks that attended, and I couldn't believe how big it was inside!
Here's a sample of this fabulous Home Rome property!
Of course it was wonderful to see Pat Kennedy there.  I loved talking with her about Real Estate in Washington DC and it's Maryland suburbs.  A Realtor with Evers and Co. she really loves what she does, I just know her clients are blessed to find her!   I Love this picture of Crofton expert, Rich Iarossi (Long and Foster), Pat and Margaret.  How about that amazing window in the master bedroom? The details in this home are fabulous!

What a classy group.  There is a lot of amazing Real Estate experience in this shot!

It was great to see this event supported by some of Margaret's ARUP regulars...Chip Frye of Charm CIty Staging, if you want your home to look this great and stand out among the competition, be sure to contact Chip.  He does fabulous work!  The lovely Helen Delheim of YWGC Realty and  Charm City's finest realtor, June Piper Brandon now of Century 21 are always up for a Home Rome gathering! I was so glad they took time out of their VERY busy schedules to be there!

Check out how big that kitchen is!  There are tons of cabinets, lots of light and a slider.  The laundry area is super convenient in a closet. right off the kitchen!  Park in the garage on those snowy days and enter in through the kitchen!
On a side note...Hopefully one of these days I will realize that I am not tall enough to need to bend down to accomodate the folks standing behind me in pictures!

The effervescent realtor Rosa Almond, now with Long and Foster always has a smile on her face!  She even brought a group from her new  office.  Here she is with Margaret and her broker Guy.  What a sharp looking group! Good Luck reigning in all Rosa's energy Guy!

It was wonderful to meet Alphonso from Keller Williams.  He is on the education team and it sounds like he is doing a fabulous job making sure those agents are up to date on all things Real Estate! I hope that we will be able to work together soon.  He is a sharp cookie!

We Had An Open House Party and Look Who Came.

                                                                                               Gourmet kitchen holds a crowd

We Had An Open House Party and Look Who Came.

It was a  colorful fall day, in Baltimore, with a bit of liquid sunshine. That did not stop the brightness inside this gorgeous Weston home at 9913 Middle Mill Drive Owings Mills, MD. 21117.

Each person who walked in was  impressed... with the size, the lay out, the creative use of space, the two car garage, the luxury master bedroom suite, the one floor convenience, the man cave area and the perfect  kitchen where everyone wanted to congregate. Lucky that this gourmet space holds a  crowd.

We had a wonderful turnout!  Not bad for rainy 'humpday' at lunch time.

So Who came?  Margaret Rome Holds Another Successful AR Open House!

ActiveRainers came, neighbors came, other agents came, real estate professionals came and most important friends came. This is the way to showcase a special home. Open the house on the MLS, on our sites,  on our emails,  but  also open it with a personal  phone call  and invitation. Yes it does work.

You can call it an open house, you can call it a broker's open, you can call it a gathering or you can call it an ActiveRain Party! One of these special people might have the right buyer for this perfect home.

                                                 HomeRome Party

When one ActiveRain member lists another ActiveRainer's property...that calls for an ActiveRain Party!

By now you know that I have  Pat Kennedy's  mother's  home for sale in Baltimore. I have known Pat through ActiveRain for many years. When it was time to sell the home where her late mother lived...Pat called me to list this  beautiful home.

And it is the perfect place to entertain and that is what we will do... have a party at  9913 Middle Mill Drive Owings Mills, MD. 21117.

You might recall that I am known as Realtor Magazine's Open House Master  and it was just a year and a half ago that we had our  First Active Rain Open House Gathering

When one ActiveRain member lists another ActiveRainer's property...that calls for another ActiveRain Party. What do you think? Will you join us?

Of course there are a few posts right here on ActiveRain. One comment by Patricia Kennedy read:  "Margaret, now this is what I would call a "WOW HOUSE!"  I think you should throw an Active Rain party there - and maybe invite the neighbors and some local agents.  I'd come.''

Pat and I will be there along with Chip Frye, Bridget McGee, Ellie McIntire, maybe June, Rosa Almond and Steve Cooper...all ActiveRain members.

Listen up everyone...Tomorrow is the day .... Wednesday October 26 1:00! We are having  an ActiveRain Gathering and a HomeRome style OPEN HOUSE.

Please join us? There are going to be some special people attending. Look for follow up posts or attend and write your own!

A Perfect Forever House...Single Family Condo in Gated Community..2 Car Garage!

A Perfect Forever House...Single Family Condo in Gated Community.

A perfect forever home is one that has accessibility, plenty of room, high ceilings, a gourmet granite kitchen, a couple of decks, privacy, views of trees and lots of lush landscaping. Convenient location with a community pool and walking distance to shopping including a Giant.

                      Westin Courtyard..HomeRome 410-530-2400

What an honor! I have been asked by Pat Kennedy the very best agent with over a million points to represent her family  in the sale of her parent's home. Lucky me, I got to spend some quality time with Patricia last month, taking the listing, giving a few suggestions and having an icy drink at the local cafe nearby. This is going to be a wonderful challenge working with a friend and colleague and this will be the beginning of many posts.

It also helps that I absolutely love the property, one that is rare in Baltimore area. It reminds me of a Florida home. It is a single family home in a condo community with a two car garage, a fabulous kitchen, laundry, 2 decks, wooded views, vaulted ceilings, 3 bedrooms...all on the first level. A full lower level has another master bedroom with bath, large family room, walk out patio and storage galore. Stay tuned...much more to come.

The Weston Courtyard home is somewhat unusual. It looks like a single-family home with front and back yard, a two car garage...but it is a condominium in a gated community.  Ease of living...exterior maintenance and landscaping all taken care of by the community association.

Available to be seen in early October. Are you looking for ease of living in a single family home? You will enjoy a rancher with cathedral ceilings, tremendous amount of light, first floor master bedroom, 2 car garage, two decks, gourmet granite kitchen with sliders to a private deck, a first floor laundry and no outside maintenance to worry about. This is a forever home and is perfect for all ages!  Walking distance to shopping and  Giant Grocery store.

A perfect forever house!

This Afternoon, I Become a Real Estate Consumer

What an honor! I have been asked by Pat Kennedy to represent her family in the sale of her parent's home. Lucky me, I got to spend some quality time with Patricia yesterday, taking the listing, giving a few suggestions and having an icy drink at the local cafe nearby. This is going to a wonderful challenge working with a friend and colleague and I am sure this will be the beginning of many posts.

It also helps that I absolutely love the property, one that is very rare in Baltimore area. It reminds me of a Florida home. Wish us luck in getting the right buyer.

Via Patricia Kennedy (Evers & Company Realtors):

After almost 30 years of helping people to buy and sell homes, I am hiring Margaret Rome to represent my family in the sale of my mother's house.
There is no great attachment to this house.  It's not the one we grew up in, but the one my parents bought when they decided to move back to Baltimore in the 1990's.  Still, it's full of things that we did grow up with, and getting the place sold is going to present some interesting challenges for Margaret.
  • Pricing is an interresting exercise as there are no recent comps in the entire project.
  • We'll need to help my youngest sister, who moved into the house two years ago to help look after my mother, find another place to live.
  • We need to decide what, if any, improvements need to be made.
  • We'll need to get it emptied out.
  • It will have to be staged to look wonderful.
The siblings all have ideas of what needs to be done and what does not, and our wonderful listing agent will get to help us sort out the differences.  And being on the other side of the transaction will be pretty interesting.

But, hey!  We have the best listing agent in Baltimore County!

Being With ActiveRainers Without Being With ActiveRainers!

You can be with ActiveRainers without being with ActiveRainers.

Our wonderful get together for lunch today at the Suburban House Restaurant was a huge success. There were two people with us not on the list.. One was Emily Medvec from Sante Fe who called yesterday asking for the address of the restaurant.

This delightful white bear, a bunch of candy, including M&M's and a bouquet of balloons were waiting at our table when I arrived about 11:30AM. Even though Emily could not be with us in person...she was definitely with us. Thank you Emily!!

The second person was my friend mARTi Garaughty(who did the cover of my book)whose art work was won by a few lucky ActiveRain members.

And the winners are:
  • C Tann won one for being the member at the most Baltimore gatherings.
  • Mortgage Mama won for bringing the most people...including her husband Billy aka Papa Razzi, her brother and partner, Tony Demchak and her beautiful daughter Sydney.
  • Pat Kennedy for being the only millionaire Rainer in attendance.
  • Mary Yonkers for causing this happening by agreeing to meet me for lunch!

Impromptu Meeting Active Rainers in DC

Impromptu Meeting ActiveRainers in DC May 2010

After an early morning workout and a showing on Monday, I was on the road to DC for our impromptu Active Rainers Meeting in DC, and made pretty good time from Baltimore, MD - about an hour. When I arrived at the historic Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, the valet attendant offered to hold my car in front for the day. Great! And not bad advertising with my MRome license plates and HomeRome frame.

Wardman Park Lobby

I walked into the huge lobby and saw no one but heard my name being called. They were there - Pat Kennedy and Jeff Dowler, as planned. We were joined by Emily Link from California. and Jay and Monika McGillicuddy from New Hampshire. We sat for about an hour, which goes by really quickly when a group of REALTORS® get together.

Margaret, Jay, Pat, Monika, Jeff, Emily

Pat said, "Is anyone hungry?" What a question – of course! Pat was in the mood for a burger, so off we went for a short walk to Murphy's of DC, an Irish pub nearby.

On the way down the escalator we saw Jay and Monika McGillicuddy from New Hampshire, going up. We motioned for them to turn around and hijacked them into joining us for lunch. We talked and ate and talked. We all had cameras and shot photos of each other but were way to busy talking... I forgot to take pictures of the food. So this sign will have to do.

After lunch Jeff, one of the nicest people ever, and I sat in the lobby for another hour or so talking, sharing, relaxing and enjoying each other's company.Again the time flew.

It was a mini vacation for me…good friends and good conversation. These are the people who live in my computer, and as Carolyn Tann-Star said, "I love the digital ground they walk on."
